(Speaking of poetry, but applicable well beyond the written word....)

"Don't identify too strongly with your work.  Stay fluid behind those black-and-white words.  They are not you.  They were a great moment going through you.  A moment you were awake enough to write down and capture."
-Natalie Goldberg, Writing Down the Bones

Each moment I have to practice letting go - re-leasing my roles, my expectations, my fears, my guilt.

Each moment I must remember that I am bigger than any title and deeper than any one piece of art.

Each moment I also must remember that the next moment I will look and feel differently - and that this is neither good nor bad.  It is just the way life flows.

Each moment I recognize that I have the capability to steer in this flow, to fight it, to flow powerfully with it, to either make choices consciously or blame others for the consequences.

Each moment I practice being open to the experience of what is - because this moment will only be open to me once in my lifetime.

Each moment I yearn to be awake

awake enough

that I may again stumble upon life.

  2. Oh I looooove this! That quote just blew me away.... yes, yes, yes... that is EXACTLY how it is! SO good to be reminded to keep those precious moments in perspective. The fact that essentially we are simply 'vessels' for those 'one in a life time' moments to flow through us. But, hey, what wonder if we do but notice, acknowledge and celebrate...and what a privilage too!
